A special mug is an everyday pleasure – you will produce artwork that’s not just beautiful but practical – something that you’ll love putting to good use.
If you’ve ever been put off trying ceramics by the need to master a pottery wheel, fear not. This is a relaxed workshop, in which you’ll use Catherine’s current favourite technique – hand building, using slabs of hand-rolled clay and imprinting techniques.
The workshop is aimed at complete beginners, but more experienced potters wanting to try a new technique are welcome too, and will enjoy learning something new.
To build your mug you will use porcelain clay, which has a fine texture and holds the texture of imprinted fabric, creating a finish which is intriguing and intricate, yet after glazing and firing will be robust and water-tight.
All materials are provided. At the end of the workshop, you’ll choose your glaze, and your work will be taken back to the Cath Ball’s home studio where it will be expertly glazed and carefully fired. Your mug will then returned to the makers mill ready for you to collect.
There is also an option for work to be posted out to you at an extra cost payable to the tutor on the day if you are not local.

The world of wine can be a tricky one to navigate. It is a vast subject and not always one that can feel accessible to a novice.
This workshop/tasting is designed to equip you with the basic tools to enable you to feel more confident and less overwhelmed or intimidated when choosing a wine in a restaurant or shop. It will also provide reassurance in the types of wine that you enjoy whilst providing an informal opportunity to explore other varietals alongside some tasty nibbles.
There will be 6 or more profoundly different wines to try and because we want you to enjoy the experience to its full extent, we would recommend that you do not drive following the session.
