We are very excited to invite you to join Emma Redfern of Hole House for a TWO FULL DAYS of sewing to create a Forager Bag.
The Forager is a practical, outdoorsy bag that is designed to be worn cross body or on the shoulder. It has an adjustable strap, front zipped pocket, optional internal pockets and a comfortable, slouchy shape. It is often made in a combination of oilskin and tweed, but you can choose any combination of heavier weight fabrics for the outer bag. You will have the choice of making one of 3 sizes, pattern dimensions for each are given in the instructions along with a paper pattern for the largest size.
Suitable for adventurous beginners/intermediate sewists:
You should be able to thread and use your sewing machine confidently, know how to change and use a zipper foot, be able to sew a straight line.
You are required to bring along with you:
- 0.5m of an Oilskin (most is approx. 150cm wide)
- 0.5m of a coordinating outer fabric
- 1m of lining fabric
- Matching Thread
- Fully operational sewing machine.
All specialist materials will be provided, along with full written instructions and a paper pattern to take away with you.
Please note there is a £15 material charge payable to the tutor on the day. This covers zips, interfacing, interlining, strap hardware, pattern and instructions. I design and sew a range of bags and purses in an array of beautiful fabrics and I only use the best I can find. There is no enjoyment for me in mass producing, cutting corners or scrimping on the details … so I don’t.
I take time to get the fabrics right for each piece, combining tweed with Liberty or vintage barkcloth with a modern cotton, and the attention is always on the detail, those little bits that maybe only you and I would notice. I am a fanatical pattern matcher and pocket obsessive.
