Join the lovely Cumbria-based ceramicist Cath Ball for an introduction into the world of hand building with Porcelain!
Make your own porcelain Plate, in this workshop with Cumbria-based ceramicist Cath Ball. You will produce artwork that’s not just beautiful but practical – something that you’ll love putting to good use.
If you’ve ever been put off trying ceramics by the need to master a pottery wheel, fear not. This is a relaxed workshop where you will use slabs of hand-rolled clay and imprinting techniques as well as stamps to decorate the clay surface. Your slab will then be placed into a plaster mound to take on the shape of a plate. The workshop is aimed at complete beginners, but more experienced potters wanting to try a new technique are welcome too, and will enjoy learning something new.
To make your plate you will use porcelain clay, which has a fine texture and holds the texture of imprinted fabric, creating a finish which is intriguing and intricate, yet after glazing and firing will be robust and good enough for you to eat from if you wish. The plate will be oven and dishwasher proof.
All materials are provided. At the end of the workshop, you’ll choose your glaze, and your work will be taken back to the maker’s home studio in the small village of Thursby, near Carlisle, where it will be expertly glazed and carefully fired, then returned to the makers mill to collect.(there is also an option for work to be posted out to you at an extra cost of £6 if you are not local)
