Two Day Weave to Bag Workshop with Jan Beadle and Hole House

Two Day Weave to Bag Workshop with Jan Beadle and Hole House

We are extremely excited to be offering a two day weave to bag workshop with Hole House and Jan Beadle!

Both tutors are extremely experienced and run wonderful courses for us here at The Makers Mill, it’s brilliant to be able to bring them together for you to make a truly unique bag.

On the first day you will weave your outer fabric with Jan Beadle.

You will be ‘Weaving Overshot’ on 4 shaft table top looms. This unusual 4 shaft weaving technique creates bold shapes that will create a striking design for the Appleby Bag.
The looms will be set up ready to go on the day with a selection of colours to design your own unique piece of tweed.

Day 2:

On the second day of this workshop you will be making the Hole House Appleby bag using your fabric you weaved on the first day to use as the bags outer fabric.

With it’s seriously cool and retro styling, this is a lovely bag to make and use. The wooden frame sits comfortably in your hand when you use this as a clutch bag, but you can attach a strap or chain to it if you prefer a shoulder bag*

Just bring your chosen liner fabric and learn how to make a beautiful lined bag, with an optional zipped pocket, that fits perfectly into the frame provided.

This class is suitable for those who can confidently use their sewing machine, but does not require any advanced sewing skills as each step will be fully explained in an informal and relaxed way.

You will need to bring:

  • Fully operational sewing machine
  • half a meter of lining fabric
  • Thread

All other materials will be provided.

Please note there is a £21.50 material charge payable to the Hole House on the second day to cover the cost of all other bag materials.

Included in the cost of your workshop is lunch from the extremely popular Jans Sandwich shop in Keswick.

The tutor of this workshop is Emma Redfern (Hole House)

Emma and Jan are also running weaving and bag making workshops on the following dates:
